St Giles is built around the core of a 12th-century Norman church that was originally attached to the church of St Mary Bishophill Junior, separated into its own parish and the church building much extended in the 19th century.

Despite the extensive restoration that took place at this time, many of the church’s medieval features can be seen inside.

The star attraction of St Giles that will be on display during the St Giles’ Church Explorer event will be panels crafted by the ladies of the church in 2000, displaying the history of the community going back over one thousand years.
