The church of St John of Beverley is another of York’s Anglo-Scandinavian foundations, being built on land donated to York Minster by Ulf, an Anglo-Danish noble.
A new stone church was built and had a dramatic early history, when it was badly damaged in a Scottish raid. St John of Beverley was rebuilt following the raid, and the structure that can be seen today mostly dates from this time, including the particularly fine Norman tower.

This will be an opportunity to discover the history of this beautiful building with a ‘screened’ tour of the building with commentary and guides to explain the history and architecture of this wonderful Norman church. There will also be a treasure hunt for children.
