The Osiligi Maasai Warriors (pictured in Cramlington in 2015), a performing Christian tribal group from southern Kenya, are set to visit Teesside from Saturday 16th to Monday 18th September.

The group has toured UK schools, churches and theatres over a number of years, and performed at St Mary Magdalene Church, Yarm last September.

Such was the success of that visit, the Revd Canon John Ford and his congregation invited the Warriors to return to the area as their guests for three days this year.

Tour organiser Jim Wilkie says, “The group is popular throughout the UK but communities and schools in the North East have been particularly responsive and the Warriors are always delighted to return.

“The evening is great family entertainment and educational, as the show also looks at the lives of the Maasai and the group does a question and answer session with the audience.

“We are most grateful to Canon John Ford and his colleagues for their generosity.”

The Warriors tour has also inspired the development of a small UK charity, Osiligi Charity Projects, and collectively they have utterly transformed their local community in the last seven years.

A new primary school has been built for 200 sponsored children, there is a new medical centre and orphanage, and a solar powered borehole/water station which serves the wider community.
