The Christian tradition is packed with great riches of reflection and examples we can still learn from. One text, of great influence in the past but less well-known now, is the Pastoral Rule of Pope Gregory the Great. Gregory, who initiated a renewed mission to England in the late 6th century, was concerned to raise the standard of parish clergy and to offer practical advice.
