The pillars of Selby Abbey will resound to the magic of Russian Orthodox and folk music when The Hermitage Ensemble choir from St. Petersburg visit The Abbey, performing their spectacularly varied programme of music.

The male voices will include the spine-tingling, uniquely Russian, deep tones of a basso profundo and the ensemble is directed by world famous Russian pianist Natalia Aksuticheva, a Sviridov Contest first prize winner.

The Ensemble performs a capella and aims to bring motets and music of the Eastern Church and Russian folk music closer to Western people.

The Hermitage Ensemble has performed in Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, Australia, France, Holland, the USA, South Africa, China and Canada. This will be their first visit to perform in the acoustically remarkable Selby Abbey.

Advance Tickets are £10 and are available from Selby Abbey Gift Shop or by telephoning 01757 703123.

They will also be available on the door.
