C1 – Foundations

The C0 module must be completed before the C1 module.

Required for anyone who has safeguarding responsibilities or who have contact with children, young people and/or adults who may be vulnerable. This includes but is not limited to:

Safeguarding officers (Parish/Cathedral), safeguarding lead on PCC, churchwardens, readers in training, ordinands prior to placement, spiritual directors, pastoral visitors, bishops visitors, helpers at activities, servers, church administrative staff, members of religious communities who are in active ministry and work with vulnerable groups (children or adults)

  • Situate safeguarding in the context of the Church;
  • Equip participants with knowledge of state and Church of England legislation, policies and practice guidance;
  • Understand your personal role and responsibilities in relation to others, including self-protection, and who to report safeguarding concerns and information to;
  • Evidence how you respond well to safeguarding information, including who to inform, referral for investigation and the boundaries of confidentiality; and
  • Work safely in your role following C of E/ Diocesan/ Parish preventative practice guidance.
