Bijou Enterprises in association with The Bijou Filming Company present “The Eight Day Mark” which is a project/performance, which will be “staged” over an eight day period from Sunday 5th to Sunday 12th July; from Withernsea to Whitby.

There will be 16 locations which are situated on or near to the Yorkshire coast . At each location, at pre-arranged times, actor John D Slater – as “John Mark”, will give a public presentation, from memory, of one chapter from the sixteen chapters of Mark’s Gospel.

Two thousand years ago, or thereabouts, there would have been no shortage of eager listeners because, if nothing else, it was a really amazing story about a man who was, to all intents and purposes, an ordinary carpenter’s son from Nazareth but someone who did and said some pretty extraordinary things.

Our project seeks to emulate the idea of a travelling story teller, as it is considered that Mark was – exchanging the coast of Syria for the coast of Yorkshire. We anticipate each location visit to be of no more than one hour’s duration.

Over the eight day period the whole of The Gospel According To Mark – almost 16,000 words will have been delivered from memory.

Each day John will walk between the venues and anyone is welcome to join him; the walk will, at some point, have an opportunity for a picnic lunch; please bring your own food. The walks are approximately two – three miles.

We hope to have a filming crew travelling with John and the resulting footage made into a video – to be submitted for TV broadcasting and in addition, be available to be screened in churches, schools or other venues; it will also be available in DVD format. Sales of the DVD will support fund raising for the work of The Red Cross in Syria.

Anyone is welcome to attend the presentations and there is no charge; venues, however, at their discretion, may take up freewill offerings at the presentations.

Anyone interested in being part of the filming team, or wishing to take part in the daily walk between the venues is welcome to join us.
