The November 2014 meeting of Hull and East Riding Interfaith (HERI) will be an open participative discussion on “War and Peace" for the 100 years since the start of World War 1, 1914-2014.

It will take place on Tuesday 25th November at 5pm in Committee Room 1 on the ground floor of the Guildhall, Alfred Gelder Street, Hull with refreshments from 4.30pm.

We will be considering Is war ever justified? What do different faith and belief traditions have to say about the evils of war? Everyone is welcome to bring a poem, a prayer, a reading or a passage of text from any book (religious or not) or your own thoughts, on war, peace, and perhaps on all the 1914 commemorations now.

The meeting will begin with poetry readings by Norah Hanson, Mary McCollum, Andy Fletcher and Rob Bell from "Small Candles" an anthology of anti war poems for Amnesty International edited by Norah Hanson.

Lyn Acton who performs with the History Troupe will be singing a song reminiscent of 1st world war and the Hull Veterans will be attending the meeting, talking about their work with soldiers suffering from post traumatic stress.

Many soldiers in the first World War suffered "shell shock" and HERI Chair Dr Khaled Sultan will be talking about the psychological effects of war, a field in which he has personal experience and expertise.

Parking is available in the Guildhall car-park at this time but is free only after 6pm. If you arrive late and the Guildhall front door is closed, the side door is open 24/7.

All are welcome to come and share views, and join in the discussion.

The following HERI Meeting will be on Tuesday 24th February 2015, details to follow.
