You are invited to a Wood Pellet Boiler Open Day - drop in to All Saints Church, Hurworth, Darlington, between 3.00pm and 7.00pm on Tuesday 1st December. Find out how a wood pellet boiler could benefit your church.

  • Free Refreshments
  • Chat with People Involved with the Project
  • Tour of new 95kW Wood Pellet Boiler System

The idea of the day is to showcase the new biomass wood pellet boiler that has recently been installed by to heat the entire church.

The driving forces for the project at All Saints were:

  1. Improvement in heat delivery to the church. The existing primary pipework and radiators were isolated from the new system using a heat exchanger thus saving a lot of time, money and excessive church shutdown. Where additional heat was required for a fast warmup and temperature maintenance in very cold weather, delivery of heat was supplemented with forced air convectors.
  2. Reduction of the carbon footprint. Wood pellets are 99.3% carbon neutral so replacing a considerable requirement for oil or gas with the efficient burning of wood, which is arguably very beneficial to the environment, this being something the C. of E. supports.
  3. Reduction in overall running costs in return for your capital investment. Biomass systems currently attract a Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) over 20 years which generates a substantial revenue stream. This may well equate to “free heating” for 20 years, allowing money to be directed to other priorities.
  4. Other key benefits include having a warm church when needed for the ministry with a fast warmup time for events. Also, control by any authorized person from the control panel in the church, or remotely over the internet from anywhere in the world.
