A special exhibition will take place at St Mary’s later this month as part of the York Archaeological Trust’s “Jorvik Medieval Festival”. It concentrates on the wood in the church much of which is medieval and will also feature work by the local woodcarvers on the Thirsk Furniture Trail.

The exhibition will be open daily from Saturday 22nd August – Saturday 5th September from 10am – 4pm except on Sundays when it is open 12 noon – 4pm.

Margaret Hunton, St. Mary’s church tourism officer and organiser of the exhibition said, “The exhibition will also include many interesting wooden items from all over the world which have been kindly donated by members of the congregation, relatives, friends and acquaintances who regularly support the exhibitions that we hold 3 or 4 times a year. Many of the items "tell a story" making the displays more interesting for visitors to the exhibition.”

Admission to the exhibition is free but donations to St Mary’s are always welcome.

Home-made refreshments will be available in the crypt every Monday from 10am.
