Many in ministry work from a study in their home, whether a tied house or not, rather than from a desk in an office with others. Most people in this position will have worked in a very different environment beforehand: commercial office, shop floor, school classroom, hospital ward, theological college, etc.

There are significant differences between these two settings.

The change is likely to be from working in the company of others to working solo, from commuting between home and work to losing that separation, from having support services available to being your own IT expert, stationery buyer, etc. and, not least, from working in a disciplined environment to working in a setting which lacks normal employment boundaries.

Some thrive in this new setting while others struggle.

This training day, designed for ordained and lay church leaders and other church staff who work from home and who realise they need help in how to do that effectively.

The day will include:
• Identifying the issues in working for a
church from home.
• Particular issues if you are single and if
you are married.
• Models of work behaviour seen in home workers
and how to become more effective.
• Making the study a place you enjoy working from.
• Home distractions and how to minimise them.
• Handling paperwork and IT well.

The day will be led by John Truscott. John is an independent church consultant and trainer who specialises in administrative and operational issues. He also runs the UK Church Administrator Network (UCAN) and offers one-to-one work consultancy to clergy and others, usually in their studies
