Believe in Eastfield

Warren Furman is to play a role in helping to bring people of a Scarborough town closer together.

Furman, better known as ACE from the cult ‘90s TV show Gladiators, is playing his part in the ‘Believe in Eastfield’ Christian mission week organised by Holy Nativity Church on Westway, running from Wednesday 28th June to Sunday 2nd July.

There are numerous activities taking place, with Furman’s role including leading activities at local primary schools and afterschool clubs at the church as well as being a guest speaker at a men only social night at nearby charity centre Westway Open Arms.

“I’m really looking forward to coming to Eastfield and helping out with this special week for the town,” said Furman, who has worked in community projects, schools, prisons, local churches, missions, ministries and alongside the Archbishop of York.

Holy Nativity vicars Revd. Sam Taylor and Revd. Mary Jobling, said they are excited about the five-day programme which they hope would further cement the growing the sense of community across the town.

As local vicars, we believe Eastfield is a great place to be. We believe in the people here and know that God has great plans for the town. We have a really exciting week of activities that we hope people will come along to, which will help build community and positive relationships in this great place. We are offering the opportunity for people to meet their neighbours, and also to hear inspiring stories about God and what he has done in their lives.

We have had a really good team of people who are committed to Eastfield and who have been working together on this project. We’re really looking forward to meeting local people, and welcoming others from across Scarborough, who would like to come and join us at one of the events.”

The Believe in Eastfield mission week runs from Wednesday 28 June and concludes with a special service at Holy Nativity, on Westway, the following Sunday morning.
