In March Archbishop Holgate’s Church of England School was the first and only school in the York area to set up a permanent Foodbank collection point. They are now about to mark the end of term and celebrate the school holidays by sending to York Foodbank a second large donation of food stuffs for those in need in our community.

Laura Hagues from York Foodbank said, "We are so pleased to see a local school getting involved in the work that we do at the Foodbank. All of our food is donated by the public, so a regular donation from Archbishop’s will go a long way to keep us going. We are delighted to have such a great partnership to work together to help our community." When the school sent their last donation of 123.2 Kg of foodstuffs she told Archbishop Holgate’s: “The simple, practical gift of food and support at the point of crisis can change lives. Your support will help to prevent people from going hungry to feed their own children, or people having to decide between eating and paying the rent.”

Richard Nihill, School Chaplain, said: “We are delighted this week to be sending off another car load of donations to York FoodBank. A big thank you to everyone who donated a whole alphabet of items; from dried apricots to biscuits to cereal and more. We are looking forward to having four empty bins ready to encourage everyone to fill in the Autumn term. Supporting York Foodbank is a great way for us to continue to live out our school values of Justice and Compassion, which originally inspired us as a school to get involved and work with this important project.”
