The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu today welcomed students from Archbishop Sentamu Academy Sixth Form for an Awards Service held at Bishopthorpe Palace.
23 students graduated with a range of A Levels and BTEC Level 3 qualifications. The class of 2015 are going on to further and higher education and to apprenticeships. Degree studies to be pursued include Chinese Studies, Biochemistry, Business Management, Criminology, Music and Social Work.
Mr Andrew Chubb, Academy Principal, said: “I believe that there is no limit to what a young person can achieve, given the right levels of encouragement and high quality learning opportunities. This class of 2015 have worked hard, and have demonstrated great ambition. I am confident that they have an exciting future ahead of them - they are great ambassadors for East Hull!”
Archbishop Sentamu said: “At its best, education lifts our sights to be able to scan a different horizon. It is fantastic to see this group of students challenge themselves and discover more of all that God has created them to be. I look forward to hearing more from all that they achieve. Congratulations!”
Graduating student Robert Godden said: “I have enjoyed my time in the Sixth Form and have always received a great amount of support. This has enabled me to achieve the qualifications I need to go on to Westminster University to study Biomedical Science.”
Graduating student Georgia Garbutt said: “Archbishop Sentamu Academy Sixth Form has been a positive, rewarding experience and I am proud to be graduating today. I am looking forward to moving on to Hull University to study social work.”
As part of the Awards Service, the Archbishop formally addressed the students, teachers and parents. He also jointly presented certificates and awards to the students with the Academy Principal, Andrew Chubb.
