The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu today welcomed 25 graduands from Archbishop Sentamu Academy Sixth Form for their Awards Service at Bishopthorpe Palace.

This is the fourth-year running that the Archbishop has invited the students, teachers and parents for their Awards Service. He also jointly presented certificates and awards to the students with the Academy Principal, Andrew Chubb.

34 students have graduated with a range of A Levels and BTEC Level 3 qualifications. The class of 2014 are expected to take on Further Education, Higher Education, Apprenticeships and employment. Degree studies being pursued include Theatre management, Nursing, Criminology, History and English Literature.

Graduating student Rebecca Cooper said: “For me, the graduation ceremony is a reflection of the time we have shared as a year group and as companions in the later years of our education, the end of an era. The school has educated me, supported me, given me the grades I need to go on to bigger and better things in life and also provided me with life- long friends. I hope to go on to Leeds Metropolitan University to study History and English and I will carry on with the ethics and life lessons that Archbishop Sentamu has provided me with.”

Graduating student Daniel Richardson said: “I have really enjoyed my time in the Sixth Form and I feel I have been supported and encouraged. My BTEC Level 3 Business qualification has enabled me to gain an apprenticeship in Business Administration which I start in July. I am very proud to be a part of the Graduation ceremony this year.”

Mrs Alison Mulqueen, Head of Sixth Form said: “Today’s Awards Service gives both parents and staff the opportunity to credit the Upper Sixth’s students significant achievements. I am very proud of them and pleased to see their hard work rewarded. They have all worked very hard at their studies and we are really pleased to celebrate with them today.”

In addition to the Graduands Awards Service, over 500 students at Archbishop Sentamu Academy received their Young Leaders Award yesterday having completed the Key Stage 3 Award from the Archbishop of York Youth Trust.

Mr Andrew Chubb, Academy Principal, said: “I believe that there is no limit to what a young person can achieve, given the right levels of encouragement and high quality learning opportunities. This class of 2014 has exceeded all my expectations, I think they even have surprised themselves! I know that they have a great future ahead of them, as does East Hull.”
