The Archbishop of York Dr John Sentamu is to attend an Ox Roast fundraising event on Saturday 23 July at 6pm at Thrussendale Farm.

The event was the inspired idea of a local cattle and sheep farmer Roddy Hamilton. Mr Hamilton, a regular worshiper at St John the Baptist Church, Acklam wanted to help his local church raise funds to meet its freewill offering to the Diocese. The freewill offering supports mission and ministry in every parish. Mr Hamilton has donated a pedigree Dexter steer and is welcoming all to this fundraising event at his farm.

Along with enjoying the good food on offer, event goers at Thrussendale Farm will be able to enjoy live music, a full bar, and carefully selected local wares to sample and purchase, whilst enjoying spectacular views of up to 60 miles around.

Tickets are just £10.00 and can be purchased in Malton Livestock Market Office, the Jolly Farmer Pub in Leavening or by calling 01653 658351 or 01653 658044.

Archbishop Sentamu said: “I hope that this event may be an encouragement to others to think creatively of ways in which the church and community can pull together and support the work and witness of the Church in this wonderful Diocese of York. Roddy Hamilton has set a great example for others to follow.”

Roddy Hamilton said “As a very proud Yorkshireman, who believes firmly that local is best, this will be a truly outstanding event given by local people and businesses for the local community. 100% of all monies raised will go directly to St.John the Baptist Church in Acklam, helping our Church, within the Parish, to play its fullest possible role in the Diocese of York. We are also absolutely delighted and humbled that the Archbishop and his wife have kindly agreed to be with us on the evening”.
