Archbishop Sentamu will be visiting community organisations in Middlesbrough, Ingleby Barwick and Cleveland on Friday 24th April. Archbishop Sentamu will be visiting Cleveland Police, All Saints Church of England Academy at Ingleby Barwick, Redcar and Cleveland College, and Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team. In the evening, he will speak at the first of the ‘Cleveland Matters’ lecture series.

In the morning, Archbishop Sentamu will meet Police Community Support Officers at Cleveland Police to discuss their role in helping communities. He will then visit All Saints Church of England Academy Ingleby Barwick to celebrate the Academy’s recent ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted result with students and staff.

Our students and staff look forward to the visit and the opportunity to share their experiences, including the recent Ofsted inspection, with him.”

In the afternoon, Archbishop Sentamu will visit Redcar and Cleveland College’s new Oil and Gas Academy. He will then meet members of Cleveland Mountain Rescue, which is celebrating its 50th birthday this year.

Redcar & Cleveland College’s Acting Principal John Chance comments “We are very pleased to welcome The Archbishop of York to Redcar & Cleveland College, it is an excellent opportunity for the Archbishop to have a tour of our state-of-the-art facilities, meet with staff and students and to visit our new Oil and Gas Academy. The Academy will provide much needed training in petroleum engineering, geology and pipeline engineering . We are pleased to be part of the Archbishop’s visit to Cleveland.”

Pete Mounsey, secretary of Cleveland Mountain Rescue said, “We are looking forward to meeting the Archbishop and showing him how the volunteers of Mountain Rescue Teams throughout the country help people lost or injured in remote areas where normal ambulance services cannot reach.”

In the evening, Archbishop Sentamu will give the first of a new lecture series, ‘Cleveland Matters’, at St Barnabas Church, Linthorpe, at 7.30pm.

Speaking ahead of his lecture, the Archbishop said, “‘Cleveland Matters’ is important. God wants all of us to flourish, and we need to take responsibility for one another if we are to see that flourishing happen and become a force for good in our local communities & beyond. None of us is left out! My desire, as a Christian and Archbishop of York, is for us all to encounter Jesus in way that is genuinely transforming, not only for ourselves, but for our communities as a whole.”
