Archbishop Sentamu Welcomed By Michelin Starred Chef
The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu has been invited into the kitchen of The Star Inn at Harome by Chef Andrew Pern as part of the mission taking place in the deanery of Northern Ryedale from Friday 13 to Sunday 15 January 2017. The Archbishop, a keen cook who enjoys sharing food with others, will meet with Andrew and his team on Saturday afternoon.
The mission in the deanery of Northern Ryedale is the first in a series which will see the Archbishop go back on the road to join all 21 deaneries in the Diocese of York throughout 2017 and 2018 for weekends of celebration, witness and blessing, telling others of the love of God.
Archbishop Sentamu said, “Jesus has invited us to proclaim the good news of God's love and make disciples. I hope that, through the INVITE events that are happening over this weekend, many will hear the good news of Jesus Christ and his love for them, accepting Jesus’ invitation to life in all its fullness.”
The Archbishop will visit four schools on Friday 13 January including Ryedale, Welburn Hall, Lady Lumley and Thornton Dale Church of England School. Later, Archbishop Sentamu will round the day off with a Ceilidh, supper and a talk at Helmsley Town Hall. Opportunities to meet the Archbishop on Saturday are at; All Saints Church & Downe Arms at Wykeham for 8am, Warrington House at Thornton le Dale at 9.30am, St Peter & Paul’s Church at Pickering at 10.30am to join in the coffee morning which is open from 10am until 12 noon; then the Village Hall at Middleton at around 11.45am and then joining with members of the Church in Lastingham to visit homes in the parish to ask for any prayer requests. He will then be at the Penny Bank CafĂ© in Kirkbymoorside at around 3pm. Or join the Archbishop at St Hilda’s Church Beadlam for 5.30pm Evensong.
Also on Saturday, Helmsley Vicarage is holding Pilgrim Plus at 11am – (contact Tim Robinson to book in), Great Habton Village Hall is open at 2pm for tea & conversations, and Cold Kirby Village Hall is celebrating baptisms at 2.30pm – all are welcome to attend. On Saturday evening Gilling Village Hall is hosting a ‘Question Time – Where is God in Aleppo?’ with panellists Prof. Pauline Kollontai – Professor of Theology and Religious Studies at York St John University, Prof. Sebastian Kim – Chair in Theology & Public Life at York St John University, Bishop Paul Ferguson and The Venerable Sam Rushton. On Sunday, Morning Prayer will be said by the Archbishop at Holy Cross, Gilling at 9am. All are warmly welcome at St Peter and St Paul Church in Pickering for the Sunday Deanery Eucharist at 10.30am where the Archbishop will be preaching. Please bring a picnic lunch as this will follow the service.
The mission weekends will build on the wonderful ministries already alive in the Diocese of York and follow on from the Archbishop’s 6-month long Pilgrimage of Prayer, Witness and Blessing across the Diocese which ended in May 2016.
