Five representatives of the Archbishop of York’s Youth Trust will complete a four-day Trek across the Trans Pennine Trail from the 14th to 18th July to fundraise for the Archbishop’s Youth Trust.
Before they set off on their cycling and walking trek, Archbishop Sentamu is to lead Pilgrimage prayers with the team, which includes Dan Finn, Ian Walker, Mick Fox and 2 Young Leaders, George (17) and Josh (17), at Bishopthorpe Chapel on the afternoon of Weds 13 July.
The team of five will cycle over 100 miles in two days, setting out from Liverpool Lime Street Station on 14th July to journey to Doncaster. The team will then continue to walk the remaining 50 miles to return to Bishopthorpe Palace on 18th July.
Archbishop Sentamu said; “Through the work of my Youth Trust and our Young Leaders Awards, I have seen how many young people have been empowered to become active citizens in their own communities. I continue to be amazed by their passion and dedication to make a difference. Join me in supporting the Youth Trust with their fundraising challenge – my longest day’s walk on the Pilgrimage was just over 16 miles and that was tough!”
Dan Finn, the Director of the Youth Trust, said: “Throughout the Archbishop’s Pilgrimage, in which he walked over 1.6 million steps, he was energised and encouraged by the people he met along the way and particularly when meeting so many young people engaged in wonderful learning in schools. We are pausing on our journey at two schools, Sir Thomas Boteler in Warrington and Holy Trinity School in Barnsley, to meet with some young people taking part in the Archbishop’s Young Leaders Award. The purpose behind this trek is to raise funds for the Young Leaders Award which is having a huge impact in the lives of thousands of young people across the north of England; empowering them to grow in leadership and make a real difference in their communities. We’re raising money in order to set up a bursary fund that will enable the Award to be offered and delivered to young people in some of the most deprived areas of the north of England”.
