Archbishop Sentamu will be in and around Scarborough from Friday 13 to Sunday 15 October for a weekend of mission entitled ‘Come and see – Come and follow me’.

Ros Brewer, Lay Dean for Scarborough said, “We are delighted that the Archbishop is joining us for a weekend of mission here in Scarborough. It is a wonderful opportunity to invite friends and share the Good News of Jesus. We have three days of fun-filled activities including a trip to Scarborough Fair at the Flower of May Holiday Park and there will be inspiring worship too – there’s something for everyone. We are asking all to come and see, come and follow me.”

On Friday the Archbishop will visit George Pindar School, Scalby School, Scarborough Sixth Form College and St Augustine RC School where he will be meeting students, giving talks and completing Q&A sessions. On Friday evening at 7.00pm the Archbishop will be at All Saints Church, Hunmanby to give a talk on the theme ‘Does God heal today?’ – all are welcome.

The Archdeacon of East Riding, the Venerable Andy Broom will be visiting Ebor Academy on Friday, to be involved in lessons and to give out certificates to students who have recently taken part in the Archbishops' Youth Trust Awards Scheme.

Saturday begins with a breakfast for Civic and Business leaders at Saint Catherine’s Hospice. Later at the Market Hall, the Pearl of Africa Choir will be performing – come and see! At around 12.15pm the Archbishop will call in at the Solid Rock CafĂ© before meeting members of the fishing community over lunch in the Newcastle Packet Pub. At 3pm, the Archbishop will be outside M&S on Newborough where there will be music and an opportunity to hear the Archbishop give a short talk.

We think it is a wonderful place at the heart of the old town community where trading has been taking place for over 1,000 years. To have his support will be amazing”.

In Filey, also on Saturday, between 11.30am and 1.30pm, the Bishop of Hull, the Rt Revd Alison White, along with members of the Parish are offering to pray for shoppers and passers by. The Revd Nigel Chapman, Vicar of Filey said, "As Christians, prayer forms an important part of our life. Many people wander into church, Christians and non-Christians alike, asking us to pray for them. So we are simply going out onto the streets, offering to pray for people and in some small way show that we care”.

Bishop Alison will lead a Celebration of Marriage Service at St Mary's Church Scarborough at 3.00pm – anyone is welcome to come along.

At 7.00pm on Saturday evening, join in the Barn Dance at St Mary’s Parish House, Castle Road, with live band Grassroots as accompaniment. A talk will be given by the Archbishop over a Pie and Pea Supper. Proceeds from the evening will go to support the work of the Rainbow Centre, which provides help to the homeless and families and individuals in crisis in the Scarborough area. Tickets are available from local churches and the Rainbow Centre.

On Sunday at 9.30am there is a Service of Celebration marking the 120th Anniversary of St Thomas’ Church in Gristhorpe – all are welcome.

From 10.30am there will be a full day of activities for all ages at Scarborough Fair, Flower of May Holiday Park. Entrance is by ticket only and is free, tickets available from all local churches. All are invited to come and take part in the worship and activities throughout the day, interspersing this with time on the fair rides (charges apply). Food to be purchased from the venue.
