There's been a church dedicated to St Hilda at Chop Gate, at the top of Bilsdale, since 1145; the present beautiful building on the site was commissioned by the Earl of Feversham and built in 1851 by Messrs Banks & Barry.

Northallerton and District Motor Club made a donation towards the upkeep of this well-loved local landmark following their Motorbike Trial in Raisdale, Bilsdale on August Bank Holiday Monday.
