The Bishop of Selby, the Rt Revd Dr John Thomson, will be taking part in the 29th Great Selby Bike Ride on Sunday 10th May. Organised by Selby District Lions, the Ride starts at Barlby High School at 10am, and Bishop John will be tackling the forty-five mile course.

Bishop John said, “I’ve been a keen cyclist for years, but a forty-five mile course is going to be a challenge for me! Please do support everyone taking part – I’ll be easy to spot as I’m cyclist number one, wearing a purple tabard that says ‘Biking Bishop of Selby’, but I have swapped my mitre for a cycle helmet. I’m looking forward to tackling the course with everyone else, as we will all raise money for some very worthwhile charities. I’m very grateful to all the churches which have sent money to support these causes.”

Bishop John has so far raised over £1,200, which will be split equally between the Selby District Citizens Advice Bureau and the Selby Lions’ chosen charities: the British Heart Foundation, Martin House Hospice, St Leonards Hospice, Friends of Selby Hospital.
