The Bishop of Selby, Dr John Thomson today joined Head teachers and support staff from across North Yorkshire for the Youth Trust’s Key Stage 2 Young Leaders Award Conference.

Bishop John said; “The Young Leaders Award is a fantastic tool which inspires teachers to consider the whole child – both the mind and the heart. The Award gives children the practical opportunities to be able to make an impact on their local communities – though they are young – I know they can change the world for the better and the Young Leaders Award is helping them to do exactly that!”

The junior programme has currently been rolled out to over 150 Primary schools with many more keen to take part. With 49 schools represented today from the City of York and North Yorkshire, this Spring conference has been the most successful to date.

Dan Finn, Youth Trust Director said “This is an exciting time for the Young Leaders Award – more and more schools are finding out about this innovative scheme and we are delighted that Carr Junior today shared their excellent experiences of running the Award in school. As a Trust we are looking forward to seeing the impact that hundreds more children will have on their local communities as they take part in the Young Leaders Award”.

The Young Leaders Awards, at Key Stages 2, 3 and 4, are an active citizenship resource for schools and there are over 23,000 young people now signed up across the north of England. The aim of the Awards is to encourage leadership in young people, inspiring them to be the change they want to see in their lives and local communities.
