On Saturday 7 May, the Bishop of Hull, the Rt. Revd. Alison White, will cross the iconic Humber Bridge to meet the Bishop of Grimsby, the Rt. Revd. Dr. David Court, to celebrate Christian Aid Week.

The walk will start from Hessle Country Park, HU13 0LN and walkers can turn up to register on the day from 1.30pm. At 2pm, the Bishop of Hull will officially start the Humber Bridge Cross for walkers on the north side of the Humber and begin her crossing.

The Humber Bridge Cross, now in its 34th year, is an annual sponsored event that challenges walkers to cross the bridge as many times as they can to raise money for Christian Aid Week and CAFOD. Last year the Humber Bridge Cross raised over £11,000 for Christian Aid Week.

This year’s Christian Aid Week (15-21 May 2016 www.caweek.org), Britain’s longest running door-to-door fundraising week, is asking the British public to love every neighbour and support poor communities around the world, who often are forced to live without the basic needs of food and shelter. Together, we could help give some of the world’s poorest people enough to eat and a safe place to call home.

In Bangladesh, Christian Aid partner GUK works with both women and men in poor rural communities affected by the effects of climate change, to give them somewhere that is safe, secure and dry to live. GUK is supporting families suffering with the consequences of annual floods, which destroy their home, belongings and lives, leaving them with nothing. You can help to change the lives of climate-affected families in places like Bangladesh this Christian Aid Week by donating online at www.caweek.org, calling 08080 006 006, or texting ‘SAFE’ to 70040 to give £5.

The Rt. Revd. Alison White said, "It is wonderful to take part in an event which supports Christian Aid in its work of putting love into action, enabling Christians to heed the call of loving our neighbours as ourselves to make a positive difference in the world. We need to join together in this, so it is great to be walking with people from both sides of the Humber and hearing of how they are involved with putting love into action through Christian Aid.”
