Clifton Spiritual Pathway

The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, is to join with congregation and friends of Clifton Parish Church, York on Friday 23 September at 7pm to open and dedicate the completed Clifton Spiritual Pathway outside the church. All are welcome to attend.

The mosaic tiles, with individual letters on each, when put together, spell out an inspiring Biblical quote focused on hope and form a pathway over 30 metres long. This Bible verse reads: Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength – they will soar on wings like eagles. Isaiah 40:31.

The community project has taken eight years to complete. It was designed and project managed by Helen Bower, with administrative assistance from Lorna Siddons and with the help and support of Clifton Parish Church. The project has involved over 100 people from start to finish. The majority of the tiles used have been created, grouted and finished by the people of Clifton.

The Revd Canon David Casswell, vicar of Clifton Parish Church said: “This project could not have been completed without the time and dedication volunteered by so many people from our community. Our hope is that people will be able to follow the Clifton Spiritual Pathway physically, figuratively and spiritually. ”

Archbishop Sentamu said: “’Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength – they will soar on wings like eagles’. What an encouragement to us! My prayer is that those who journey through this life with Jesus Christ will know their strength renewed daily as they seek to share the love of God with those they meet.”

As well as the Spiritual Pathway, a new communion table frontal was commissioned and completed in 2015 by Jacqueline James, a local artist who made the hand woven piece specifically for Clifton Parish Church.
