St Lawrence Parish Church, York, will be celebrating its Patron Saint with a barbeque and games. The church will be holding a family fun day on Sunday 14th August from 10am to 3pm.

Jack Ward, St Lawrence Sunday School leader, is organising the fun day. He said, “Everyone is welcome to come along on Sunday 14th August and join in the fun. We’ll be starting with activities in the Hall at 10am looking at who St Lawrence was, moving into the churchyard with games from 11am, an we’ll be firing up the barbeque at about 11.30am.

“In the afternoon, we’ll be reviving an old tradition from St Lawrence, and holding a race around the church. Some of our older members of the congregation remember having races around the church when they were children!

“St Lawrence is not only the Patron Saint of our church, but also the Patron Saint of the poor. To celebrate his life and follow in his footsteps, the fun day is free, but we’re asking people to bring along timed goods or long-life food for York foodbank.”
