Inspired by an article in the Mothers Union magazine Families First, the Embroidery Group from St Edward's Community Hall, Dringhouses, have made "fiddle pinnies" for people with dementia at Amelia House Care Home, Rawcliffe.

When a person has dementia they may become very bewildered about their environment and often become agitated and begin plucking at their clothing. These "fiddle pinnies" enable them to be distracted and provide a constructive activity. The manager and staff at Amelia House were delighted with this gift for their residents.

Instructions for making the quilts can be found on the Inspired pages of the Mothers Union website: www.mothersunion.org. Plenty of homes for people with dementia would welcome this resource which can be made from a variety of scrap materials.
