As part of our Diocesan commitment to becoming Generous Churches Making and Nurturing Disciples, we’re holding three sessions on Giving in Grace, to help your church address giving, stewardship and generosity. Giving in Grace was developed in the Diocese of Liverpool, and offers a range of biblically-based, practical resources to enable churches to resource ministry and mission and to help build generous congregations who ‘excel in this grace of giving’ (2 Cor. 8:7).

The training events will be led by Steve Pierce, Director of Learning and Stewardship in the Diocese of Liverpool and co-founder of Giving in Grace, and will take place on Monday 23rd March at:

  • The Trinity Centre, North Ormesby 10.00am -12.00 noon (refreshments from 9.30am)
  • The Village Hall, Stockton on the Forest 2.30pm - 4.30pm (refreshments from 2pm)
  • St Nicholas Church, Beverley 7.30pm - 9.30pm (refreshments from 7pm)

Steve says, “Churches need money to fulfil the ministry and mission of God, and to pay the bills. For most churches the largest share of this money will come from congregational giving. Giving in Grace helps congregations to think and act differently about funding their church, gives a fresh understanding of the importance of regular, planned giving and an awareness of the need to develop additional income streams.”

The training sessions on Monday 23rd March will give clergy and lay leaders an understanding of the thinking behind Giving in Grace and the architecture of the programme. Giving in Grace enables churches to build financial sustainability and address money as a part of our Christian discipleship.

The Ven David Butterfield, Archdeacon of Generous Giving and Stewardship, said, “A lot of clergy worry about preaching about giving, and lots of PCCs struggle to help make ends meet. We hope Giving in Grace will be a good way for churches to teach their congregations about responding to God’s generosity. A healthy relationship with money is a normal part of our discipleship, and grace-filled generosity is the sign and seal of financial discipleship.”
