A new concert version of the musical ‘Godspell’ which has already taken the Epic Centre at the Lincolnshire Showground by storm comes to St Columba’s Church on 17 June 2016.

Sue Hodge, star of much-loved BBC Comedy Series ‘Allo ‘Allo!, created and directs ‘Godspell – The Concert’ as an event for churches.

Sue started her acting career at the age of just fourteen and has recently returned from successfully playing the Vicar of Dibley in Tasmania. Now she takes on her biggest dramatic challenge to date – getting the best musical performances possible from willing and enthusiastic volunteers drawn from right across Lincolnshire.

“The cast is not a professional company nor indeed an amateur company, but simply a choir with some friends,” says Sue modestly. Under her expert direction they have already delivered twelve spectacular performances of this modern musical. Amongst the 250-strong audience at the Epic Centre was David Court, Bishop of Grimsby, who had a very enjoyable evening - “The enthusiasm was infectious, the whole production incredibly moving.”

Peter Godden from St Columba’s comments “We’re truly delighted that Sue is bringing her production of ‘Godspell - The Concert’ here. I think we are all in for a treat.”

‘Godspell – The Concert’ is based upon a series of parables, drawn from the gospels. The parables are interspersed with music and song, ending with the Passion of Christ. Sue is captivated by the music in Godspell, which has real melodic range. “It can be rocking along and then in the next piece you could hear a pin drop,” she enthuses.

The lead role of Jesus is played by Adam Watson, Vicar of Welton near Lincoln, who performs it to perfection, conveying the varied emotions generated by the storyline. There are fine solo performances by members of the supporting cast and the whole ensemble consistently delivers at the very top of their game. In short, ‘Godspell – The Concert’ is truly magical. Why not go along and experience it for yourself.
