A mums and toddler group and the 6th Pocklington Brownies, both run at All Saints Church Pocklington, have joined forces to put on a beautiful display of poppies in the porch at the church.

Kirsty Brooks, leader of Little Saints and Kate Blake, Brown Owl for the Brownie unit, wanted to create a hands on activity to engage the children with this important time of year in our calendar. She said, "The idea started as an opportunity to ask the children to make a poppy for the display at the same time as thinking about all the men and women who have fought for us. The idea quickly grew to include children from primary schools and guiding and scouting groups in Pocklington Parish. Everyone asked, embraced the idea and the result is approximately 1300 poppies being put on display at the run up to the Remembrance service at All Saints on 8th November."

Revd Geoff Hollingsworth, the Vicar of the Pocklington Group of Churches, fully supported the idea and said, “This display is a remarkable sign of the thankfulness which people feel towards all those who gave so much to defend our nation in times past and indeed in the present. We are so pleased that our young people can learn about Remembrance Sunday by taking part in this way. It is very moving to see the display and I encourage all to come and see for themselves”.

The display will be open to the public daily from 8- 4pm until 20th November.
