I attended the 2015 LyCIG conference with Mike Parker and Diana Bushby (Churchwardens at St Anne’s Ellerker). We found it so inspiring and it was just the catalyst we needed to start developing the life and ministry of St Anne’s. The first initiative was very simple; we introduced Midday Prayers on the first Thursday of Advent. Midday Prayers has become a very significant part of the rhythm of the life of St Anne’s and has brought in folk who tend not to do Sunday Church. LyCIG Local followed during Lent 2016 and thereafter Pilgrim courses. Lots of positive spin offs, too numerous to mention in this short article.
During 2016 my hopes and vision have been galvanized for the three Churches of the benefice. With the encouragement of our LyCIG companion (Archdeacon Sarah Bullock) we worked towards establishing a LyCIG Team. That Team now meets fortnightly; it is a source of mutual support and a way of leading all three Churches towards growth. During Lent 2017 we ran the ‘Everybody Welcome’ course, this drew people together from all three Churches and was such an encouragement.
The LyCIG follow up day we attended in March 2017 was immensely helpful. Aside from the most helpful input from speakers there was a real sense of collaborative support between the various benefice groups represented there.
