The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu is joining in part of a ‘Holiday to Holy Day’ mission week in the Southern Ryedale Deanery taking place in the last week of July.

The Revd Taff Morgan said, “It is wonderful that the Archbishop is able to join us for the weekend of 28th to 30th July as part of our mission week at the start of the school holidays. We want to invite people to explore faith and find out more about Jesus. There will be lots of activities and events so whether you like your Church to be Messy, Sweaty, Café or Spa – we’ve got it covered. Join us!”

Highlights include a ‘Celtic Spa’ experience at St Martin’s Church in Bulmer on Tuesday 25 July at 7.00pm– all are welcome. On Thursday 27 July at 8.00pm at Sand Hutton Village Hall, the Revd Taff Morgan will talk about his journey from cockpit to pulpit, sharing his journey from a navigator in the RAF to being a priest in the Church of England.

On Friday 28 July, Archbishop Sentamu joins the mission at Sand Hutton Village Hall from 1.30pm to experience Messy Church. Messy Church is for all ages to come together and learn about Jesus Christ through creative activities, celebration and hospitality. At 6.30pm there will be a musical evening in the Chapel at Castle Howard, the Archbishop will give a talk and a Q & A session follows.

Saturday starts with a men’s breakfast at 8.30am at Church House, St Peter’s Norton, before the Archbishop heads to Malton Market Place to meet and mingle with shoppers from 10.30am. St Michael’s Church, Malton, will be open throughout the morning and at 11.00am there will be a drum workshop and at 11.30am a short service at which the Archbishop will preach – all are welcome to come along.

At 3.00pm, Terrington Hall Prep School is hosting ‘Sweaty Church’ – the energetic way to learn more about the Christian faith. The Archbishop will be there to give a talk on the theme of the day.

On Saturday evening you can catch up with the Archbishop at either The Bay Horse in Burythorpe or The Three Tuns in West Lutton. He’ll be calling in to talk with staff and pub-goers about his faith in Jesus Christ.

Sunday morning begins at St Margaret’s Church in Huttons Ambo at 10.00am with ‘Café Church’ – an opportunity to worship together in a more relaxed and informal way. All are welcome to come along.

At 3.00pm on Sunday, Coneysthorpe Village will be staged for an event ‘The Journey’ – this is an event open for all ages and all are welcome. There will be activity stations located on the Village Green and in the Chapel – it’s a fun and interactive way to reflect on journeys of faith. Archbishop Sentamu will be there to encourage all, wherever they may be on their journey.

The Archbishop said, “There is nothing better than encountering the risen Lord Jesus and asking him to journey with you through life. I encourage everyone to come along and see for themselves what God can do – see you there and invite a friend too!”

This will be the tenth weekend of mission in the Diocese of York in which the Archbishop of York is encouraging everyone to go out to share their faith in Jesus Christ with all.
