With Vocations Sunday (17 April) just around the corner, the Diocese of York is delighted to welcome the Revd. Jackie Doyle-Brett to the Vocations Team. The team is responsible for fostering vocations to ministry in the church in the Diocese of York, and Jackie will have particular responsibility for those aged under 25.
Jackie Doyle-Brett is from the East Riding of Yorkshire and was ordained in 2013, since when she has served as Curate in the Tadcaster Benefice, which also includes Church Fenton, Newton Kyme and Kirkby Wharfe. From 2003 to 2013 she was Head of Humanities and lead specialist in Religious Studies at Newland School for Girls in Hull, following three years as Head of History and lead specialist in Gifted and Talented education at Kingswood High School, Hull. She has a particular interest in issues of equality and discrimination in society and in the church, and in developing contemplative spirituality in herself and others. Jackie says, “It will be a a joy to watch the seeds of vocation grow in those young people called to ministry in the Diocese of York.”
Jackie will also be the next Vicar of St Luke’s York, and will be collated by the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, on the evening of Thursday 16th June 2016.
Please remember to pray for an increase in vocations to lay and ordained ministry – but particularly for a continued increase in younger vocations as we approach Vocations Sunday 17 April.
The Vocations Team has been encouraged by the number of younger candidates coming forward already – partly the fruit of the young adult residentials ‘Hineni‘ (here I am!) over the last few years, and is particularly excited about the appointment of Jackie to the team. The Revd. Dav Mann, Diocesan Director of Ordinands and Adviser on Vocations, says, "Jackie brings a wealth of experience from a teaching past before entering ministry".
