The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, will license a new Vicar for the churches in Stainton, Hilton and Brookfield on Thursday 19th June, at 7pm in St Margaret’s Church, Brookfield. The Revd Vivienne Hatton will become the vicar of St Peter and Paul’s Stainton, St Margaret’s Brookfield, and St Peter’s Hilton.

Vivienne Hatton comes to Stainton from Staffordshire, where she was Interim Minister of St John the Baptist, Shenstone and St Peter, Stonnall. Before her ordination, Vivienne was UK Director of Expatriate Services for an international firm of accountants.

Vivienne said, “I was studying part time for an honours degree in Applied Theology. Towards the end of my course, several church members, some work colleagues and my vicar suggested that I should explore ordination in the Church of England. I enjoyed my job, and was planning to be a vicar alongside working, but a chain of events led me to reconsider, and I became a full time vicar.”

Vivienne is married to George. They have two grown up children, Tanya and Jason, and two grandchildren, Olivia (6) and Lily (4).

She said, “Although I was born in Bristol we moved to Redcar when I was twelve and it was there I met George. We lived in Acklam for a short time after we were married but his job took us to the Midlands in 1980 where we have been ever since. It is now time we came home! I am looking forward to taking part in the life of all three churches and making new friends in Stainton, Hilton and Brookfield.”

Vivienne trained at St John’s College in Nottingham where she obtained an MA in Mission and Ministry. Her curacy was at the urban priority parish of Heath Town, Wolverhampton. From there she became Vicar of Chasetown, and then Interim Minister of St John the Baptist, Shenstone and St Peter, Stonnall.
