On Saturday 4th July St Matthew's Church, Grosmont, hosted Prom in the Pews.

Reader David Haddon-Reece said, "This concert saw the Esk Valley Concert Band, a talented group of youngsters from the Whitby Music Centre led by their teacher Bob Butterfield. People were delightfully entertained while eating their picnics, with a real ale bar in attendance run by the Grosmont Crossing Club. The concert was arranged by Tammy Naylor in aid of church funds, with help from a lot of locals.

"It was good to see how church and community can interact to mutual advantage, especially in a place which does not have a village hall. The church has gained a lot of friends and goodwill by such interaction – making disciples, in a way."

Other clubs now using the church include the Gardening Club, which also decorates the church for festivals, and some members of these groups are now attending church occasionally.
