This summer, the churches of Harton benefice invite you to a new type of church – a Church Spa.
There will be four Spa Evenings during the summer, each starting at 7pm and lasting around 45 minutes, with a different special theme:
7 June – Celtic Church Spa, St Botolph Bossall
Be transported and carried away on a wave of beautiful Celtic music and words.
5 July – Classical Church Spa, St Michael Crambe
Wallow in and savour some of the best, most exquisite spiritual classics.
2 August – Taize Church Spa, St Lawrence Flaxton
Soak up the rich beauty of Taize music and be fed by its rhythm and simplicity.
6 September – Gregorian Church Spa, St John Buttercrambe
Luxuriate in the haunting plainsong chant of music sung in Abbeys and Monasteries centuries ago.
Each evening will take the form of a five-step programme to help you feel refreshed, replenished spiritually healthier:
Step 1 - Deep cleansing and exfoliation – confessing our separateness from God.
An opportunity to offer to God all that clogs up your earthly life and so be freer to enjoy the rewards of a more spiritual one.
Step 2 - Preparation and calming – candles are lit as a sign of our desire to receive God’s wisdom.
Lighter and more refreshed, take this opportunity to prepare and be enlightened by God’s word. Relax in the songs you hear, letting the words and melody wash through you.
Step 3 - Replenishing and conditioning – infilling by a reading from Scripture.
Let yourself be stimulated and invigorated by the words of scripture – listen to them afresh. Immerse yourself into the world of Bible: its heat, smells, noises, images, people – and let your imagination be nourished by what you experience!
Step 4 - Revitalising – connecting to God through prayer and intercession.
A chance to reconnect yourself to God and the world through the experience the Circle Prayer. Imagine throwing a pebble into the centre of a pond, and feel the circles of prayer ripple out from your centre to the edges of the world.
Step 5 - Relaxing massage – blessing and dismissal.
And finally, a relaxing musical blessing to allow your body, mind and soul to engage with the world once more – but hopefully more alive, more invigorated and more at one with God.
