Stokesley Schools Welcome Deanery Mission
The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu is returning to Stokesley Deanery for a weekend of mission from 24 to 26 March 2017 which includes Red Nose Day and Mothering Sunday celebrations.
The Archbishop said, “I am looking forward to meeting people in Stokesley deanery this coming weekend. It’s Red Nose Day on Friday which brings fun and laughter into people’s lives and it transforms others too. Throughout the weekend I want to tell people of the joy and fulfilment that can be with each one of us every day when we know Jesus Christ as our personal friend and Saviour and what a difference that this can make.”
On Friday morning, the Archbishop starts off the mission by visiting Nunthorpe Academy and Stokesley School, then onto Conyers School in the afternoon where he will meet with pupils and take part in Q & A sessions. At 7.30pm on Friday the Archbishop will be at the Mint Hobo Coffee House Yarm, to share his story of faith.
As part of the mission, the Bishop of Whitby, the Rt Revd Paul Ferguson will visit Ingleby Manor and Barleyfields Schools in Ingleby Barwick on Friday morning. The Archdeacon of Cleveland, the Venerable Sam Rushton will visit Carlton and Faceby School, Bilsdale Midcable Chop Gate School, Ingleby Greenhow School and Myton Park Primary School.
John Downs, Deputy Headteacher at Conyers School, said: “The focal point of the Archbishop’s visit to Conyers will be a Question Time style debate with a group of sixth formers including those studying A level RE, Philosophy & Ethics. Students are looking forward to the opportunity to debate with and learn from a national leader with such a varied life story.”
Saturday begins at 9.00am with a ‘Pause Breakfast’ at Ingleby Barwick Tesco. The Archbishop will then be popping up at Stokesley High Street between 11am and 1pm, then later in Yarm High Street from 2.30pm to 4.00pm – this is to meet with local people and talk to them about Jesus Christ.
On Saturday evening, tickets are sold out for the Open House event at St Francis of Assisi Church in Ingleby Barwick where three choirs will be performing and the Archbishop will take part in a Q&A session.
On Mothering Sunday, the Archbishop is joining the Family Communion Service at 9.30am at St Timothy’s Church, Hemlington followed with lunch in the church hall – all are welcome. Later the Archbishop will call in at HMP Kirklevington prison to talk to prisoners and to staff before joining prayers at All Saints Church, Crathorne at 3.30pm .
This will be the fourth mission weekend that the Archbishop is undertaking as he revisits all the deaneries in the Diocese of York, encouraging local churches to share the love of Jesus Christ with those around them.
