A major national event for young people in the Church of England took place at York Minster on the evening of Friday 17th October. The Church of England Youth Council celebrated its 10th birthday with a party that included live music from W1 (Manor CofE Academy's worship band), circus skills, contemplative Compline, talks, and (of course) birthday cake. There are more pictures from the evening here.

Archbishop Sentamu welcomed the young people coming to the party. He said, “Children and young people aren’t the future of the Church – they are its present! The Council has been the voice of young people in the Church of England for a decade now, and they have a lot to celebrate. The Church of England has been enriched by their ministry and wisdom, and it’s wonderful to see them gathered together to party in York Minster.”

Patrick Deeming, chair of the Church of England Youth Council said, “I love being part of the Church of England Youth Council – it’s a way for young people to have a voice in the church. I’ve been a member for the last five years, and the Council has really supported me in that time, so being chair is a way of giving something back to the group. It’s so exciting to be celebrating ten years of the Council with our party in York. We have so many plans for the future, here’s to the next ten years!”

The Church of England Youth Council represents the young people of the Church of England, encourages young people to develop their gifts and callings in the church, and engages with issues that affect young people.
