The decision, backed by the Diocesan Synod in November 2015, has been to sell Diocesan House and to buy another modern office building, Amy Johnson House, just 200 metres from our existing office and staff will move across early in July.

The move has been triggered by an historic lack of space in our present building and a decision to redevelop the rest of Aviator Court for residential accommodation. This means a halving of the number of office parking spaces, which would have made it impossible to operate effectively from the existing offices beyond the autumn of 2016.

In addition to providing a better environment for the staff, the new office will accommodate new training and library facilities which are urgently needed by the School of Ministry. These are vital as we continue to train lay and ordained ministers as part of our shared mission to Grow and Nurture Disciples.

If you have ever moved house, you’ll be familiar with the sort of upheaval that involves. The staff planning this move have worked hard to ensure it goes as smoothly as possible, but inevitably it will involve some disruption to the office’s usual service for clergy and parishes.

Diocese Office move timetable:

From Monday 27th June: Packing up starts. We will do our best to respond to enquires, but we’ll be focusing on getting ready for the move we’d be grateful if non-urgent matters could be held over until we’re unpacked at the other end.
From Friday 1st July: The office will effectively be closed for all non-urgent matters as the contents of the office are packed into crates.
Thursday 7th - Monday 11 July: The phones and our IT infrastructure (including emails) will be moved across to Amy Johnson House. But we won’t lose anything. If you email the office between those dates, we will get the message, but probably not until we are up and running in our new home.
Tuesday 12th July: The office will be open for the first time in Amy Johnson House. We hope that whatever issues have surfaced during the move, we’ll have them mastered, but … your patience will be appreciated.
No change
The office phone number will still be 01904 699500 and the email addresses won’t change. The new postal address (from Monday 11th July) will be : The Diocese of York, Amy Johnson Way, York YO30 4XT

Please continue to contact your Archdeacon or Bishop as normal …
… but please bear with them on Friday 8th July when they will be without email for a couple of hours in the morning while the email server is being moved round the corner!
Finally, your thoughts and prayers will be very welcome as the Diocesan office staff team undertakes this important and slightly daunting project.
