On Thursday 5th March, over 70 staff at Archbishop Holgate’s School donned their fancy dress outfits in aid of national World Book Day. The day was a huge success; the excitement and enthusiasm from both staff and students was great, there was a real buzz around books! Staff were dressed as a range of characters, both famous and obscure, in order to encourage students to engage in discussions around reading. As part of the day, students competed to identify as many characters as they could around school. The winning student will receive a £20.00 book token. Adding to this, every student was also given a £1.00 book token that can be redeemed at the locations specified on the World Book Day website: http://worldbookday.com/books/use-of-tokens/. During afternoon registration, students enjoyed their weekly DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) time, tested their literary knowledge with a quiz, and discussed their favourite books with form tutors. Celebrations were at their peak in the library, with students enjoying a range of book-themed activities. In the meantime, Year 10 and Year 8 Literacy Leaders raised a fantastic sum of money with a book sale, the proceeds of which will be going to Book Aid. All in all, a fantastic day was had by everyone.
