Gavin Wakefield is the Director of Training for Missional Ministry for the Diocese of York. He leads the Diocesan Training Team, in its work of 'encouraging mission and ministry across the diocese'. He, and the Training Team, are here to help lay people and clergy if you are looking for advice on training events, further study of any kind, or want to think through issues around mission or ministry.

Angela is responsible for providing encouragement, resource and training for lay people in their ministries across the diocese, including the Recognised Parish Assistants scheme. Also, as Training Adviser for the Cleveland Archdeaconry, she works to provide the appropriate skills and support to enable the laity and clergy in Christian mission and ministry.

Elaine Bielby is half time Training Adviser based in the East Riding Archdeaconry where she is responsible for the IME Phase 2 programme for curates and contributes to the general CME programme with the archdeaconry. She is also responsible for the Diocesan IME Phase 2 programme and provides a link between the Training Team and the Diocesan Healing and Deliverance Advisory Group. Elaine is also half-time Priest in Charge of Welton with Melton and Dean of Women’s Ministry.

Lynn works 3 days a week as the Director of the York School of Ministry, planning for and providing initial and continuing ministerial education for Readers across the diocese. This includes organising the Wydale weekends for Readers and also a variety of other training events, some of which run jointly with clergy and ecumenical partners. Lynn also works 2 days a week as a senior lecturer at York St John University, including teaching on the Foundation Degree in Theology and Ministry – the course which contributes to the Reader Training programme.

Terry is responsible for providing encouragement, resource and training in support of clergy continuing ministerial development in parishes, deaneries and, where appropriate, chaplaincies across the diocese. This includes the ‘Fit for Post’ programme and oversight on the York Leadership Programme. Also, as Training Adviser for the York Archdeaconry, he works to provide the appropriate skills and support to enable laity and clergy in Christian mission and ministry.

Richard Walker is a half time Training Adviser for the East Riding Archdeaconry and is responsible for lay training, clergy CMD, and a module director teaching on the reader studies course at Beverley. He has a Diocesan responsibility as the advocate for multi-parish benefices, is a member of the York a School of Ministry Management Committee and currently leading an initiative for parishes to examine their discipleship against the diocesan marks of generous churches. Richard is the Vicar of St. Nicholas in Beverley and combines this half time role with being an Assistant Diocesan Director of Ordinands.

Pete Watson is part-time (one day a week) IME Phase 2 Adviser for the York Archdeaconry and Rector of Brayton. He did his theological and ministerial training at Cranmer Hall, has been ordained 9 years, is an ex-German teacher, graduate in Arabic and Social Anthropology from St Andrews University, and PGCE at Westminster College, Oxford. Born in India, Pete spent formative years in Bangladesh and India, and is proud to be a Glaswegian!
