QUOTE FROM THE ARCHBISHOP OF YORK
It is clear there is hunger among educationalists, teachers and, most importantly, children for a new vision for education. I believe that nurturing the heart, soul and mind of our young people, helping them to join in our common purpose to 'love your neighbour as yourself', will enable us to inspire and commission dynamic ambassadors who can make a positive contribution and, as Mahatma Ghandi described it, 'be the change they want to see' in our world.
During my time as Archbishop of York, I have often spoken out about how young people are not the leaders of tomorrow, they are the leaders of today, and should be taking an active role in society and decision-making processes. In 2008 with this in mind, I launched my Youth Trust. Since then we have reached tens of thousands of children and young people though our Young Leaders Award, helping them to grow in leadership and character and empowering them to become active citizens in their communities.
We exist to empower young people to be the change they
want to see in their lives and local communities. Through our Young Leaders
Award in schools and Grant Making activities, we are REACHING out and ENGAGING
thousands of young people each year, in turn EMPOWERING them to become active
citizens, changing our world for the better.
YOUNG LEADERS AWARD
Available for Primary and Secondary schools, our Young
Leaders Award is enabling young people to become active citizens. Through
exploring faith, leadership and character and taking part in social action in
their community young people are being empowered to 'be the change they want to
We continue to present a positive message about young
people in all we do. We seek to raise their profile, increase their confidence
and self-esteem and show that young people can be the change they want to see
in the world.
Through our grant making
activities in schools throughout
the north of England, we're reaching some of the most disadvantaged and disengaged
young people and empowering them to make a positive difference.
