The Diocese of York
Priest in Charge
(House for Duty)
St Mary’s Lowgate, Hull
St Mary’s is a city centre church in the heart of Hull, which has almost no resident parish population but many opportunities to minister to those who work nearby or come into the city centre. The Church is an established centre for the arts and also a venue for ministry to the homeless and the deprived.
The congregation is not large but we are committed to offering a distinctive ministry to the city centre with our ministry to the arts and the homeless, but also through our choral tradition within the liturgy of the BCP. Our commitment to develop these is reflected in our ongoing building project which will bring greater flexibility and better resources to the church.
We will offer supportive friendship to our new Priest, who will also have the opportunity of praying and meeting with colleagues at Hull Minster, the other city centre church. The vicarage is close to the University on the western side of Hull.
We would welcome a priest of any age or gender, who will enable and encourage us to :
· Engage with those who come into the City Centre
· Build on our existing ministries and develop new ones
· Grow our congregation and reach younger people
· Deepen our worship of God through the Book of Common Prayer
· Communicate better with each other and the community around us
