Beverley, St Nicholas: Update

The Reverend Richard John Walker, in addition to resigning as Vicar of the Benefice of Beverley, St Nicholas, will resign also from his role as East Riding Archdeaconry Training Adviser with effect from Monday, 24 July 2017.

Huntington

The Reverend Christopher John Park, (Priest in Charge of the Benefice of Alne, and Priest in Charge of the Benefice of Brafferton with Pilmoor, Myton on Swale and Thormanby) has been appointed as Associate Minister of the Benefice of Huntington.

Mr Park will be licensed by the Archbishop of York in early July with the date to be confirmed.

Clifton

The Reverend Canon David Casswell, (Vicar of the Benefice of Clifton), will retire with effect from Saturday, 12th August 2017.

Thirsk

The Reverend Derek John Simpson, (Team Rector of the Benefice of Brentford in the Diocese of London) has been appointed as Rector of the Benefice of Thirsk.

Mr Simpson will be licensed by the Bishop of Whitby in the Parish Church of St Mary’s, Kirkgate in Thirsk at 3pm on Saturday, 13th May 2017.

Hull, St Martin with the Transfiguration Hutton Cranswick with Skerne, Watton and Beswick AND Nafferton with Wansford

The Reverend Simon Richard James Elliott, (Vicar of the Benefice of Hull, St Martin with the Transfiguration), has resigned to be Vicar of the Benefice of Hutton Cranswick with Skerne, Watton and Beswick, and Priest in Charge of the Benefice of Nafferton with Wansford.

The date of his final service will be Sunday, 23 April 2017.

Mr Elliott will be licensed by the Bishop of Hull on Friday, 7 July 2017 at 7.30pm in the Parish Church of All Saints, Nafferton.

Venerable Ronald Woodley

It is with regret that I have to inform you that the Venerable Ronald John Woodley, who had the Archbishop’s Permission to Officiate, died on Saturday, 25th February 2017.

Mr Woodley was ordained in 1954 and served the whole of his ministry in the Archdeaconry of Cleveland. Before his appointment as Archdeacon of Cleveland in 1985, he ministered in Middlesbrough, Whitby and Stokesley. He served as a Canon of York Minster from 1982 to 2000.

Mr Woodley was 91 and is survived by his wife Pat and their family. The funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.

Area Dean of Hull Deanery (Central and North)

The Archbishop has appointed the Reverend John Conway Cowan to be Area Dean of Hull Deanery (Central and North) for a period of five years. Mr Cowan will be Commissioned by the Bishop of Hull on Tuesday, 14 March 2017 at Brimley Lodge, Beverley.

Scarborough St Mary with Christ Church and Holy Apostles

The Forest of Galtres: Update – Licensing

The Reverend Stephen Whiting, (Team Vicar to the Leverhulme Team, Bolton in the Diocese of Manchester) has been appointed as Priest-in-Charge of the Benefice of The Forest of Galtres.

Rural Dean of Scarborough

The Archbishop has appointed the Reverend Michael John Leigh, Vicar of Newby, and Vicar of Cloughton and Burniston to be Rural Dean of Scarborough for a period of five years. Mr Leigh will be Commissioned by the Bishop of Hull at Brimley Lodge, Beverley on Tuesday, 6 December 2016.

Mr Leigh succeeds the Reverend David Christopher Pynn who stepped down from the role at the end of his term of office.

Acomb St Stephen

The Reverend Edward James Lunn (Ned), (Assistant Curate of the Benefice of Acomb St Stephen), has been re-appointed as Assistant Curate of the Benefice of Acomb St Stephen until 4 January 2017.

The Rural Ainsty Bishop’s Mission Order Update - Licensing

York Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

The Reverend Rachel Bailes (Chaplin at Pinderfields Hospital, Wakefield in the Diocese of Leeds) has been appointed as Senior Chaplin at the York Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.


Ms Bailes will be licence by the Archbishop of York on Thursday, 15th December 2016 at 12:30pm at the Chapel of York Hospital.

The Revd Canon David Hodgson

It is with deep sadness that we must inform you that the Reverend Canon David George Hodgson died on Tuesday 11th October, peacefully with his family around him.

David trained for ordained ministry at the college f the resurrection, Mirfield, and served his entire 34-year ordained ministry within the Archdeanonry of Cleveland in the Diocese of York.

David was ordained Deacon in 1982 and Priest in 1983. He served his Curacy in Stainton-in-Cleveland from 1982 to 1987. He was appointed Rector of Loftus-in-Cleveland and Priest in Charge (later rector) of Carlin How with Skinningrove in 1987, where he continued to serve until 1993.

In 1993, David was appointed the Vicar of The Church of the Ascension, Middlesbrough. He additionally served (from 2003 to 2007) as Preist in Charge of South Bank and (from 1998 to 2005) as Rural Dean of Middlesbrough.

David was appointed as an Honorary Canon of York (prebendary of Ampleforth) in 2001.

Amongst his work for the church in the wider Diocese, David served as a Chairman of the diocesan Advisory Committee and (after December 2015) as a co-opted Expert Adviser to the DAC, and also as Academic Tutor at the Middlesbrough Hub of the York School of Ministry, where he was responsible for the admission, teaching, learning and assessment of students studying on the Foundation Degree programme in Theology and Ministry.

The funeral will be held at 11am on Friday, 21st October 2016 at The Church of the Ascension, Middlesbrough.

Ormesby

The Reverend Carol Sunley, (assistant Curate of he Benefice of Ormesby), will retire with effect from 31st December 2016.

Her final service will be on Sunday 25th December 2016 in the parish church of St. Cuthbert, Middelsbrough.

The Reverend Ursula Lucy Simpson, (Priest in Charge of the Benefice of York St Barnabas), has retired with effect from 19 September 2016 and has been granted Permission to Officiate by the Archbishop of York.

Rural Dean of North Holderness

The Archbishop has appointed the Reverend Anne Margaret White, Priest in Charge of Aldbrough and Mappleton with Goxhill and Withernwick, to be Rural Dean of North Holderness for a period of five years. Mrs White will be Commissioned by the Archdeacon of the East Riding on Monday, 26 September 2016 during the North Holderness Deanery Synod.

Mrs White succeeds the Reverend James Grainger-Smith who has stepped down from the role at the end of his term of office.

Kingston Upon Hull, Holy Trinity

The Reverend Matthew Woodcock, (Pioneer Minister in the Benefice of Kingston Upon Hull, Holy Trinity) has been appointed as half-time Associate Minister of the Benefice of Kingston Upon Hull, Holy Trinity and half-time Deanery Mission Enabler for the duration of the City of Culture.

Mr Woodcock will be licensed by the Bishop of Hull during the Hull Deanery Conference to be held at Archbishop Sentamu Academy, Hull on Saturday, 24 September 2016.
