DESCRIPTION:Our long-awaited diocesan conference takes place at the University of York from the 23rd to the 25th July 2026. Speakers include The Rt Revd Michael Curry\, Sonia Thompson\, Emily Owen\, and The Rt Revd Jill Duff. \nMeet our speakers \nRead the programme \nDownload the worship booklet \nOur conference theme: Called and Sent\nOur conference theme\, Called and Sent\, reminds us who we are and why we are here. By the Spirit\, God calls each of us into life with Christ\, not as spectators but as participants in his story. We are gathered to listen again to that call – to be rooted in Jesus\, changed by grace\, and renewed in hope. And we are sent outwards\, into parishes\, schools\, chaplaincies\, and communities\, to share the good news of God’s Kingdom. To be called and sent is to live Christ’s story today – receiving his love\, and sharing it with courage and compassion. \nWho is invited?\nAll licensed and beneficed clergy\, Licensed Lay Ministers (Readers)\, and members of the diocese’s two religious communities have been invited to stay residentially for all three days. \nFor Saturday\, we have also invited a wide range of diocesan lay and ordained leaders\, including: Mustard Seed Community Ministers\, Lay Deans\, employed children\, families\, and youth workers\, clergy with Permission to Officiate (PTO)\, Lay Multiply Leaders\, Deanery Financial Advisers (DFAs)\, members of Archbishop’s Council\, young people and young adults. \nEach deanery has also been given up to five additional places for anyone not listed above whom they would like to attend. \nDiocesan and Bishopthorpe staff will be involved at various points during the conference. \nIf you think you should have received an invitation but have not\, please email Emily Bird. \nConference Prayer\nLoving God\,by your spirit you call us into lifeand send us to proclaim your Kingdom in the world.Renew the life of our diocese\,make us part of your story\,so that\, called and sent\, we may be more like Christand share his love with others.Amen. \nWe are grateful to Benefact and the Archbishop of York’s discretionary fund for financially supporting the majority of conference costs.

During the session\, you will learn how to: choose and use a large language model (LLM) tool; write clear and effective prompts; use AI to support practical church\, work\, and personal tasks; work with documents and data safely; and identify useful ways AI could support you in your role. \nThis is a hands-on session focused on the basics of using AI. We will not have time to explore the wider ethical questions around whether or how AI should be used\, or its environmental impact. \nPlease read the diocesan AI policy and guidance before attending. You will need access to an AI tool\, such as ChatGPT\, Microsoft CoPilot\, or Google Gemini\, so that you can take part in the practical exercises. Please create or access an account before the webinar begins. The course contains six units\, each with video input from the Curriculum and Inclusion team as the NSE alongside discussion and application in our online sessions together. The course also provides some recommended reading to enhance learning. \nThe course is ENTRY LEVEL and assumes no previous learning about racial justice. DESCRIPTION:PLEASE NOTE – OUR SESSIONS ARE ONLY FOR LEADERS AND TEACHERS IN CE SCHOOLS IN THE DIOCESE OF YORK\n\nWe all want our Primary schools to be places of belonging – where each child feels seen\, heard and valued exactly as they are. Amidst the competing priorities\, rapid change and the complex society we live in\, it can be hard to know where to begin having honest conversations about our differences and disagreements. \nDifference for Primary schools is a free suite of resources to help your pupils navigate an increasingly complex world\, embracing difference and championing a culture of courage\, hope and empathy. Rooted in Christian values and using Children’s literature as a guide\, Difference is designed to support real change by embedding three formational habits: Be Curious\, Be Present & Reimagine. This training session will equip you to run the Difference Program in your school. \nEach participant will be given a login to download all the materials at the end of the session. \nThe session will be via Zoom. \nCost \nThis is free of charge and will include access to resources. \nBookings will close on 30th October. \nThis course is only for those working in schools in the Diocese of York. SUMMARY:Effective Governance in a Church School Induction / Refresher
DESCRIPTION:For all new governors and any that feel that they would benefit from a refresher (working with CE schools in the Diocese of York)\n\n\nPLEASE NOTE – OUR SESSIONS ARE ONLY FOR THOSE WORKING IN AND WITH CE SCHOOLS IN THE DIOCESE OF YORK \n  \nThis two hour session is designed for all new governors in Diocese of York Church of England schools and any that feel they would benefit from a refresher. The session will explore the distinctive nature of Church of England schools and the special responsibilities of Church school governors\, including foundation governors. It will introduce you to the Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS) framework and the role governors play in monitoring and evaluation. \nThis session is held online via Zoom. \nDate \n• Monday 9th November\, 6.00pm-8.00pm \nCost \n• These sessions are provided free of charge for schools \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:RE Subject Leaders Network Meeting
DESCRIPTION:A termly online network to support RE leaders in Diocese of York Church schools. All sessions are held via Zoom. \nPLEASE NOTE – OUR SESSIONS ARE ONLY FOR THOSE WORKING IN AND WITH CE SCHOOLS IN THE DIOCESE OF YORK \nThe network provides: \n• updates about RE locally and nationally \n• support for subject knowledge \n• support in developing an effective RE curriculum \n• updates on the latest classroom resources \n• sharing of good practice \nDates \nThe sessions for this academic year are; \nThursday 19th November 2026 \nTuesday 9th March 2027 \nThursday 10th June 2027 \n(booking is required for each session) \nAll sessions start at 4.00pm and finish at approximately 5.30pm \nCost \n\nThis package is provided free of charge for schools in the service level agreement [SLA]\nThere is a charge of £30 per session for schools not in the SLA\nBooking is via Eventbrite\n\nZoom details to join the session will now be sent in the reminder email sent a couple of days before each session.  Please contact Anita Smukulis if you have not received them – anita.smukulis@yorkdiocese.org (& it may be worth you adding this email address to your whitelist of senders). \n\n  \n\n
