DESCRIPTION:PLEASE NOTE – OUR SESSIONS ARE ONLY FOR THOSE WORKING IN AND WITH CE SCHOOLS IN THE DIOCESE OF YORK \nThis new Chairs Development Network is designed to provide both training opportunities to enhance Chairs and aspiring Chairs around vision led strategic leadership\, together with an opportunity to network with other Chairs and aspiring Chairs to share practice and discuss both opportunities and challenges. \nEngagement with the network will help to promote: \n\nDevelopment of your governance leadership skills to enable you to effectively develop and lead the strategic direction of your board;\nDevelopment of your understanding of the role of a Chair in a church school in leading the vision and ensuring it has impact;\nAn understanding of your role within the context of school improvement and the role of the board in supporting and challenging the educational flourishing of your school as a church school including a focus on preparation for inspection;\nLearning how to develop your boards’ effective monitoring and evaluation of the schools’ theologically rooted Christian vision;\nOpportunities to network with other chairs from other similar schools to you to share best practice and discuss wider matters.\n\nThese sessions are intended to compliment the deeper training provided as part of our Development and Digging Deeper sessions. Chairs are encouraged to attend these sessions alongside the network to unpack unique church school aspects in greater detail. \nThe focus of this session will be as follows: \n\nPlanning and leading a strategic conversation with the Board (across all aspects of governance\, through the Church school lense);\nUnderstanding your strategic priorities;\nWorking with senior leaders in your school/academy including:\n\nEffective partnerships between Headteachers and Chairs of Governors\nPerformance management\nWorking with other senior leaders in your school (SENCO\, Deputy Head etc.)\n\n\nWorking with wider stakeholders and representing the Board\n\nThis is the 2nd session in this programme (the first one was on 14th October 2025). DESCRIPTION:18 April to 4 July \nOver the course of 8 sessions\, Studying Theology aims to introduce participants to the study of theology in an accessible and approachable manner. This course will ask what theology is and what a theologian does\, and will begin to examine a number of different areas that\, as the Church\, we need to think carefully about. \nThe course begins and ends with gathered\, face-to-face sessions at the Diocesan Office in York\, with the sessions in between taking place online. There will be additional opportunities for learning between the sessions\, and a suggested reading list for those who want to take their studies further. Participation will require access to our Virtual Learning Environment (Moodle) as\nwell as web-based video conferencing. It is an eight-session group-based course that explores what the Bible is and the story it tells. For each session\, there are two 15-minute films to watch\, and a manual provides summaries of the key points\, space to take notes and discussion questions. \nThe Bible Course: Schools Edition also provides additional reflections about how the session content relates to working or leading in a church school and also links to Understanding Christianity and the SIAMS framework\, so that staff in church schools can gain a deeper understanding of the Bible and how to apply its wisdom to the work in their school. \nThe course will involve meeting with other school leaders in eight\, one-hour online Zoom sessions to discuss the materials for each session and share thoughts and reflections in a safe\, confidential forum. \nDate / Time \nThis course begins on Thursday 8th January\, 2026 / 4.00 – 5.30pm and will run every Thursday at 4pm for 8 weeks. \nCost \n\nThis package is provided free of charge for schools in the service level agreement [SLA]\nBooking is via Eventbrite\n\n

DESCRIPTION:PLEASE NOTE – OUR SESSIONS ARE ONLY FOR THOSE WORKING IN AND WITH CE SCHOOLS IN THE DIOCESE OF YORK \nThese two hour sessions are designed for all governors and include further exploration of how governors can support the development of their school as a Church school. This links particularly to governors’ core functions of ensuring clarity of vision\, ethos & strategic direction and supporting leaders and holding them to account. \nYou can take part in the full programme or attend aspects relevant to the context of your school. \nThis is the 3rd and final session in this programme\, the link on this page is to book for the 3rd session. \nSession 3: Distinctively Effective Governance \nThis session explores the principles of effective governance in a Church school with a particular emphasis on effective monitoring and evaluation strategies. \nThe training will focus on: \n\nOfsted and SIAMS expectations\nThe work of governors through link governor roles and committee structures\nThe place of school visits.\n\nDates / Times: \n\nSession 3 – Distinctively Effective Governance – Monday 8th December\, 6.00 – 8.00pm\n\nCost \n\nThese sessions are provided free of charge for schools but booking is required\nBooking is via Eventbrite (booking is separate for each session)\n\n

SUMMARY:Governor online forum - Evening session
DESCRIPTION:Governor Online \nPLEASE NOTE – OUR SESSIONS ARE ONLY FOR THOSE WORKING IN AND WITH CE SCHOOLS IN THE DIOCESE OF YORK \nThese hour-long forums give Church school governors the opportunity to learn about new guidance and initiatives\, explore existing responsibilities and share best practice. Education Team Officers will provide a question and answer session to meet the current needs of foundation governors and chairs. \nNo booking is required – All sessions are held online via Zoom with details for each session being circulated in the Monday email. A reminder is also sent to all foundation governors around a week or so before each session\, which will include the links. \nEach term there will be 2 sessions on the same day; 1 at 2.00pm and the other repeated at 7.00pm. Governors are welcome to drop in to whichever session is most convenient for them. \nThe dates / times for 2025 / 26 are; \n\nWednesday 26th November 2025 – 7.00pm\nTuesday 24th March 2026 – 2.00pm & 7.00pm\nThursday 21st May 2026 – 2.00pm & 7.00pm\n\nCost \n\nThese sessions are provided free of charge for schools in the service level agreement\n\nAn Online Module for a self-led introduction to governance in a Church school is also available for all new foundation governors and any other governors who may find it useful.
