SUMMARY:Studying Theology Short Course
DESCRIPTION:18 April to 4 July \nOver the course of 8 sessions\, Studying Theology aims to introduce participants to the study of theology in an accessible and approachable manner. This course will ask what theology is and what a theologian does\, and will begin to examine a number of different areas that\, as the Church\, we need to think carefully about. \nThe course begins and ends with gathered\, face-to-face sessions at the Diocesan Office in York\, with the sessions in between taking place online. There will be additional opportunities for learning between the sessions\, and a suggested reading list for those who want to take their studies further. Participation will require access to our Virtual Learning Environment (Moodle) as\nwell as web-based video conferencing. SUMMARY:Chairs of Governors Development Programme
DESCRIPTION:PLEASE NOTE – OUR SESSIONS ARE ONLY FOR THOSE WORKING IN AND WITH CE SCHOOLS IN THE DIOCESE OF YORK \nThis new Chairs Development Network is designed to provide both training opportunities to enhance Chairs and aspiring Chairs around vision led strategic leadership\, together with an opportunity to network with other Chairs and aspiring Chairs to share practice and discuss both opportunities and challenges. \nEngagement with the network will help to promote: \n\nDevelopment of your governance leadership skills to enable you to effectively develop and lead the strategic direction of your board;\nDevelopment of your understanding of the role of a Chair in a church school in leading the vision and ensuring it has impact;\nAn understanding of your role within the context of school improvement and the role of the board in supporting and challenging the educational flourishing of your school as a church school including a focus on preparation for inspection;\nLearning how to develop your boards’ effective monitoring and evaluation of the schools’ theologically rooted Christian vision;\nOpportunities to network with other chairs from other similar schools to you to share best practice and discuss wider matters.\n\nThese sessions are intended to compliment the deeper training provided as part of our Development and Digging Deeper sessions. Chairs are encouraged to attend these sessions alongside the network to unpack unique church school aspects in greater detail. \nThe focus of this session will be as follows: \n\nPlanning and leading a strategic conversation with the Board (across all aspects of governance\, through the Church school lense);\nUnderstanding your strategic priorities;\nWorking with senior leaders in your school/academy including:\n\nEffective partnerships between Headteachers and Chairs of Governors\nPerformance management\nWorking with other senior leaders in your school (SENCO\, Deputy Head etc.)\n\n\nWorking with wider stakeholders and representing the Board\n\nThis is the 2nd session in this programme (the first one was on 14th October 2025). You are welcome to book a place even if you did not attend the 1st session.  \nCost \n\nThese sessions are provided free of charge for schools but places must be booked via Eventbrite\n\n  \nAn Online Module for a self-led introduction to governance in a Church school is also available for all new foundation governors and any other governors who may find it useful.
