Chaplain Vacancy

£22000 fixed salary, 37 hours per week term only plus 15 days

To start: September 2019

ASPIRE is an Alternative Provision Academy serving Hull and the East Riding. We opened in September 2014 as part of the Sentamu Academy Learning Trust and are based in a new, purpose built site in East Hull. We are currently one of the largest AP Academies in the UK, educating over 150 students aged 10-16 in a range of highly innovative ways. We are a highly challenging but rewarding organisation in which to work, with the support and development of students set as our core purpose.

Reporting to the Lead Chaplain for the Trust, we are seeking to appoint a Chaplain to initiate and establish the work of Chaplaincy in our AP academies, with a particular focus on Aspire Academy to begin with. The work of a chaplain is one of being present and journeying with people through life’s challenges, particularly helping them with significant loss and bereavement, offering pastoral care, comfort and spiritual counsel where appropriate. As part of the role they will embody the values of Forgiveness, Endurance and Community, articulating their Christian roots appropriately and sensitively.

The ideal candidate will need to have:

● Graduate level qualification or quality experience in either Youth Work, Teaching or Social Work

● Significant experience in Youth Work or Education in a highly challenging urban environment with an understanding of the challenges facing our particular students.

● Leadership skills in any area, which could be applied to help engagement with students, through for example Sports or the Arts.·

● Experience of relating Christian faith to life outside of a church setting with non-Christians through dialogue or small group work.

They will also be an excellent communicator with the ability to use their initiative, respond calmly to crises and extreme emotional distress, and have strong personal resilience.

We also believe that it is a genuine occupational requirement of the role for the job holder to be a practising Christian and member of a local church.
