Two weeks ago we shared the story of St Mary’s Church Cottingham, who have been generously Living Christ’s Story, by supporting mission in East Hull parishes. The gift of almost £1,000 has kept growing, so that five parishes in East Hull will now receive over £250 each to support mission in their local communities.

At the end of a sunny week, when many people may have been planning to go on holiday, we have been sharing ‘Stories of Hope’ from Scarborough. As one of Yorkshire’s popular holiday destinations the tourism, hospitality and leisure industries have been hard hit by the impact of Covid-19. It is not clear what the long-term impact will be, but our coastal communities are certainly more vulnerable, with businesses and livelihoods in the balance.

This week we are sharing ‘Stories of Hope’ from Middlesbrough, a town that has been particularly hard hit by the impact of Covid-19. In recent figures released by the Office for National Statistics, there were 79 deaths per 100,000 in Middlesbrough compared with 12-27 per 100,000 in other areas of the York Diocese. There have been over 200 deaths at James Cook University Hospital, a death toll almost double that in York and Hull hospitals.
