The Archbishop of York is inviting all to join him in a vigil of prayer ahead of the Commons vote on the Brexit deal. The vigil will start on Sunday 9 December at 6am until Tuesday 11 December at midnight.
The Archbishop, after much prayerful consideration, has written a prayer which he is encouraging everyone to pray on the hour, every hour throughout the three days. York Minster is open as a place of prayer. All are invited to attend. This prayer will be readily available to use and will be said by the duty Chaplain at York Minster throughout Monday and Tuesday.
The Archbishop said: “At this time of uncertainty I have been asked by many people to call for prayer. Please may I encourage you to join me in this Prayer Vigil as we work for peace and unity at this time.”
The Archbishop’s prayer reads:
God of eternal love and power,
Save our Parliamentary Democracy;
Protect our High Court of Parliament and all its members
From partiality and prejudice;
That they may walk the path of kindness, justice and mercy.
Give them wisdom, insight and a concern for the common good.
The weight of their calling is too much to bear in their own strength,
Therefore we pray earnestly, Father,
send them help from your Holy Place, and be their tower of strength.
Lord, graciously hear us. Amen.
Please add these to your prayers:

Christ, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.
Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive them that trespass against us.

but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.

- York Minster is open for prayer every day. There are four services each day starting with Matins at 7.30am; two services of Holy Communion at 7.50am and 12.30pm and Evensong at 5.15pm on Monday to Saturday, and at 4.00pm on Sundays. Or you can come and worship at any time during the day from 7.30am until 6.00pm. Everyone is invited to attend and worship is always free of charge.
